Pesto Christmas Trees

These fun Christmas Tree-shaped cheese straws are a great kid-friendly addition to any Christmas meal or buffet over the festive season. They are also fun to make with kids, who, in my experience, normally love making anything involving a skewer!

Makes: ~12

Prep: 15 Mins

Cooking Time: 20 Mins

Ready In: 35 Mins

  • Ready-Rolled Puff Pastry
  • 3tbsp Pesto
  • 50g Grated Cheddar
  • 1 Egg, beaten
  • ~12 Cherry Tomatoes
  • ~12 Bamboo Skewers
  1. Preheat the oven to 220C/200C Fan and unroll a sheet of ready rolled puff pastry. Spread over a thin layer of basil pesto and sprinkle over the cheese.
  2. Cut the pastry into thin strips, going the longest length. Concertina the strip, increasing the length gradually so you get a triangular shape. Insert a bamboo skewer through the middle and, if necessary, cut down slightly (remember you need space for the bake to grow slightly in the oven plus pop a tomato on top at the end).
  3. Place your trees on a lined baking tray and brush with an egg wash. Bake for 15-20mins until golden brown.
  4. Allow to cool and add your tomatoes on top. Enjoy!

Additional Information

If you are serving these to small children, then ensure the tomatoes are halved, quartered or simply removed to avoid the choking hazard. These keep well in the fridge in an airtight container for a couple of days.
