Dragon Eggs

These 'dragon eggs' are a perfect, quick activity for kids of all ages and they can be a fun way to jazz-up a boring hard-boiled egg. Dragon eggs are much more appealing to adults and children don't you think? This shows you how to make blue and yellow eggs, but you can experiment with lots of different natural food dyes to make you own creations!

Ready In: 10 Mins

  • 1 Egg
  • Handful of red cabbage
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric

For Blue Eggs:

  1. Put a small handful of red cabbage into a pan of water and bring to the boil.
  2. Place the egg into the water and cook for 3 minutes.
  3. Remove the egg from the water, run it under some cold water so you can quickly handle it, then gently tap the egg so the shell cracks but does not break.
  4. Return to the boiling water for a further 5 minutes. Drain and leave to cool before peeling.

For Yellow Eggs:

  1. Put 1/2 tsp turmeric into a pan of water and bring to the boil.
  2. Place the egg into the water and cook for 3 minutes.
  3. Remove the egg from the water, run it under some cold water so you can quickly handle it, then gently tap the egg so the shell cracks but does not break.
  4. Return to the boiling water for a further 5 minutes. Drain and leave to cool before peeling.
