Chocolate Orange Bread & Butter Pudding

Try this twist on the traditional Bread and Butter Pudding- the perfect accompaniment to a Sunday Roast! This is great to make with kids too.

Prep: 15 mins + 30 mins soaking time

Cooking Time: 40 mins

Ready In: 1 hour 15 mins

  • 8 slices of chocolate chip brioche
  • 150g caster sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 300ml milk (full fat)
  • 300ml double cream
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp orange essence
  • 1 orange, zest only
  1. Lightly toast the brioche, then cut into triangular halves. Arrange in an oven-proof dish approx 30cmx20cm.
  2. Mix the eggs, egg yolks, sugar, milk, cream, vanilla and orange essence together, then pour over the brioche. Grate over the orange zest and leave to stand for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat the oven to 180C/ 160C Fan/ Gas 4. Bake for 30 minutes, or until the custard mix has set. Check after 20 minutes, and if it is starting to catch in the oven, cover with foil for the remaining cooking time.

Additional Information

Don't be tempted to skip the toasting part- this actually helps the bread and butter pudding absorb the custard mixture. Try and find sliced brioche with the chocolate chips baked into the loaf- but worst way use plain sliced brioche and add chocolate chips amongst the slices when you add the custard.
