Orange Beef Stir Fry

Packed with veggies, this is much healthier than any takeaway and speedy to make too. Serving a noodle dish with chopsticks can also be a really fun (and messy) way of getting kids engaged at mealtime.

Serves: 4

Prep: 10 mins

Cooking Time: 15-20 mins

Ready In: 30 mins

  • 2 peppers, sliced
  • 1 broccoli, cut into small florets
  • 400g beef steak (topside), thinly sliced
  • 200ml orange juice
  • 1tbsp grated ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, grated
  • 1tbsp 5 spice
  • 1tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1tbsp cornflour
  • 1tbsp white wine vinegar
  • 225g vermicelli noodles
  • Optional: Sesame oil
  1. Cook your noodles to packet instructions.
  2. In a large wok/pan add a little oil, the peppers and broccoli and stir fry for a minute or 2 (I sometimes add a small dash of 5 spice tonight to the veg too). Add 50ml water to the pan, put a lid on and steam 3-5 minutes until the water has evaporated. Put the veg in a bowl to one side and keep warm (I cover mine in foil).
  3. Add a little more oil to the pan, then add the beef and 5 spice and stir fry until sealed. Meanwhile mix the orange juice, soy sauce, white wine vinegar and cornflour in a jug.
  4. Add garlic and ginger to the pan and stir fry for 1 minute before adding the orange sauce. Bring to the boil and then simmer for about 5 minutes until thick.
  5. Serve with the veg and cooked noodles. Optional: You can drizzle a little sesame oil over too when you serve up - I think this goes nice on the veg.

Additional Information

For weaning babies, you may want to keep the salt content down, so serve up the beef without the sauce. You may also want to cook the veggies for a bit longer to make them soft or steam them.
